After half a month of development we have finally launched the first phase of The Miele Guide, which I played the role of its designer. Big thanks to Adrianna, Aun and Pauline of Ate Media who worked with us tirelessly to get everything in order, and Uzyn the PHP and MySQL Wizard who took time to learn jQuery and worked hard for the project even though he was in Taiwan for a romantic break. I am happy to see the launch of phase 1 which marks the beginning of an exciting project and I look forward to the next phase.
For those who are not familiar with Miele and The Miele Guide, here’s a short introduction.

I was informed by an editor from Pepin Press—a publisher of design books based in Amsterdam, last year that AEN DIRECT (old name) has been selected to appear in the book “Web Design Index“. They didn’t tell me which year it is and they didn’t reply my emails so I just went ahead and got Web Design Index 07 from my local Kinokuniya but the site wasn’t in there. I soon forgotten about it until I started receiving emails from people who read a new book and saw my website in there.

Last week I wrote of how movement controlled by the mouse can be more organic by introducing factors such as speed and acceleration. For part 2 of the series, I’m adding mouse angle/direction into the equation.

In my previous post I mentioned that my plan for the redesign of the AEN website will include a more organic interface which reacts to mouse interactions better. I did an early experimental concept of how the classic easing mouse-following movieclip can be made more organic.
What’s a mouse-following movieclip? You can find examples of mouse-following movieclips at the Haze website I did and this Kirupa tutorial. Below is an example I did.

It is time for a renovated AEN website to better showcase my work and capabilities. I have been thinking about it over the past year since I had the thought. This current site is doing a pretty good job for me to express my design philosophy in writing but not much emphasis is being placed on the portfolio. It has a bit of both and in my opinion, but does not do both very well.
I shall describe how I plan to carry out the revamp technically and creatively and what will happen in general to the website.
