What is my Spatial Intelligence/Reasoning IQ?

25th February 2008 in Online, Science, 16 comments  Share This

I have been reading up on the Theory of multiple intelligence, an educational theory, first developed by psychologist Howard Gardner, that describes an array of different kinds of “intelligences” exhibited by human beings. Among which, Intrapersonal and Spatial are what I feel I have the most. I like find it easy to grasp philosophy and understand myself. I also have a knack of being able to visualize things in my mind, in fact I tend to think in a visual manner. I sort of know I am good at Spatial Reasoning but I want to know exactly how I fare. I took a Spatial IQ Test at Queendom.com and the full results costs money. I paid for it nonetheless because I thought the questions were good.

Spatial IQ

According to the report, my Spatial IQ topped the charts at 134 and I am in the top 2% of the population (U.S. probably). Being spatially intelligent means one is easily able to mentally manipulate 3D objects or images, and have a well-developed sense of spatial orientation.

Spatial Intelligence
Spatial intelligence has practical significance in many ways. It is valuable for occupations that involve the manipulation of tangible objects (such as engineering, mechanical, technical, and design fields). This ability is also relevant in everyday activities and problems, from space orientation (reading maps, orienting oneself in a strange environment) to practical tasks (re-arranging furniture, fitting a lot of things into the closet). The ability to understand 3D formations (without physically examining them) contributes to an individual’s overall intelligence, but performing poorly on this test does not suggest a low intelligence. Spatial reasoning is only one of a multitude of components of the vast (and elusive) concept of human smarts.

I have included 2 of the questions in the test. See if it’s difficult or easy for you.

Spatial IQ
This question is a bit tricky because you cannot use the blocks as they are. You have to rotate some of them to get the correct answer. That’s the whole point of it. You must be able to manipulate 3D objects in your mind.

Spatial IQ

The Rubik’s Cube question was the second most difficult for me. I spent a few minutes figuring out a method to find the answer. What I did was to try to know which colors have ended up on which side by tracing backwards in the question sequence. This gave me the original position of the green side and where part of it ended up. Knowing where is green = the answer.

Give the test a try. I wouldn’t pay for you though!

I’m going to check this test out later. Thanks for the post.

Its a great feeling that person has such kind of spatial reasoning and intrapersonal skills, he or she must have higher IQ when comparing with others. Generally they grab the information quickly and reciprocate their views instantly.

Nice article. The information was very useful and thoughtful. The questions seemed quite tricky though.

I scored 164 on the facebook spatial I.Q. test…have you tried that one yet?

Which one on Facebook? Facebook tests are so… you know. Why don’t you try the one I did?

Why don’t try the facebook test it before you knock it besides it’s FREE…SO, why would I want to pay for a similar test on Queendom?

    Where is the test? :X

If you don’t have a facebook account, go to this link https://www.facebook.com/r.php?r=200…then add the Spatial IQ application to your account and take the test…there are all kinds of tests/quizzes/etc. to take…interesting stuff and I realize that some of it may be bunk, but this test wasn’t exactly easy…good luck

    Hi Chilli,

I took the Facebook test. I think a couple of questions in the test probably does not qualify as the spatial type. Example the one that asks “how many triangles” can you find. It’s flat and sort of like where’s waldo. I found many triangles but could keep track of the counting. Spatial reasoning does not include the ability to count, that’s mathematical. The Rubik’s cube questions is actually a ripoff from Queendom’s!

I wonder how you got 164. Considering there are only so few questions and I’m sure I only got 2 or 3 wrong. By the way I got 130 too. XD

Your score was 130 on the facebook test and 134, I believe, on the Queendom test. As well, a question on the facebook test was the same as one on the Queendom which tells me it’s a fairly accurate test.

As for the 164 score, I guess I’m just “exceptionally gifted” as the test result stated…(=D

    In regards to the following:
“Example the one that asks “how many triangles” can you find. It’s flat and sort of like where’s waldo. I found many triangles but could keep track of the counting. Spatial reasoning does not include the ability to count, that’s mathematical.”

Spatial-temporal reasoning is the ability to visualize spatial patterns and mentally manipulate them over a time-ordered sequence of spatial transformations.

Spatial-temporal reasoning can have as much or more to do with one of the other 5 main modes of thought: the logical (mathematical/systems) style of thought.

Spatial = space && != 2D. It is the ability to yes, visualize and manipulate within a space in the mind. Counting triangles is not manipulating anything in space. As much as you would want to believe that your ability to count triangles and keep track of the counts equates to spatial intelligence, I have to tell you that it is more like a misunderstood mix of spatial and mathematical reasoning.

‘m not saying you are dumber than what you say but you are actually just as smart but not in ways that the Facebook test has told you. As would all spatial reasoners tell you. Counting is never a right-brain affair.

“As well, a question on the facebook test was the same as one on the Queendom which tells me it’s a fairly accurate test.”

1 similar question does not make them equally accurate. It only implies the quiz creator likely ripped off questions from different places but did not do enough homework to ensure its quality. The Queedom test had many more questions and none of them had anything to do with sequential counting. Comparing them is like comparing a full MBTI test with a “Which Bleach Character Are You?” test.

You forgot to address to the other point I made which was that you scored very similar on both tests.

I’m not an expert on I.Q. tests and perhaps you are, but the results speak for themselves…lol

As well, one question make the test inaccurate…)=D

My score for regular IQ is highly gifted but my spacial IQ is average 87 and I am Asian! Ha! I guess I’ll have to be more mindful of weather/climate.
