Looking at an Aurora from Space

An aurora is a crown of glowing ionized gas that circles the Earth’s poles. This photo of Aurora Australis “Southern Lights” was captured by the IMAGE satellite on Sept 11, 2005 clearly shows a solar storm glowing green over Antarctica.
