QR Code for your webby

25th January 2007 in Design, 9 comments  Share This

I’m sure most of you have seen the special kind of barcode made up of pixelly patterns on Japanese websites and magazines which allows supported mobile phones to visit a certain url by taking a snap of the barcode. It’s called QR (Quick Response) Code and is very popular in Japan. Here’s how you can create one for your website.
Download and install this extension for Firefox, restart Firefox to use. Follow the instructions to fire up a QR Code for the webpage you are currently viewing. Take a screenshot of your page with the QR code activated. Crop the screenshot in your favourite image editor (MS Paint should be fine) to get your very own QR Code. You can use the extension to help you get the QR Code for any webpage. If you just want a generator, try this one.

Here’s AEN DIRECT’s QR Code. Take a snap with a supported mobile phone and go to http://aendirect.com/ instantly.
QR Code for AEN DIRECT

There are tonnes of possibility. You can add the code to your websites, publications and business cards for a touch of coolness. It will definitely be useful when the technology hits local shores.

I agree that this could change the mobile industry and the way we view a physical object.

Neomedia Technologies has a free down loadable software named Qode. The software turns on the QR , Data matrix, or 2D code to go to the web with the Qode platform on your mobile device.

Also, Active shopper has a licensing agreement with Neomedia for their mobile platform also to get the cheapest price of the object you are looking for.

I would post the web site but I guess that is not allowed. You will have to look at the clues to get to the link.

Re read the IP it also mentions keywords and logos for the mobile web.

So what if you decided to verbally tell your browser Coke and it linked to the web site to get a coupon, or the nearest location.

This company has a lot to offer. I guess I am the only one to see all the possibilities.

    One click to content.

What about something you saw on TV with your mobile device as the mouse?

What about you? Can you see them.

Hi swampthing. Thanks for the uber long post. Needed some time to digest it haha. Yeah, anything that is fast, simple and makes our lives easier is a good thing.

Following your clues, I ended up on http://www.qode.com/, http://www.neom.com/ and http://mmaglobal.com/. It seems that they are using their own version of the QR code and named it Qode.

Hey chillycraps, it can be or a touch of coolness or it can be quite useful in my case as more than 12% of my site visitors are Japanese. That qrcodeblog is pretty crazy.

It is not my area of expertise, but , when the writing is on the wall, it is kind of hard not to notice.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Writing on the wall reminds me of loansharks.

Aen, you asked the wrong question. swampthing, how much NEOM stock do you own and how badly is it underwater?

Aen, check out OP3’s shotcode, Nextcode’s mCode and Beetag for codes that were designed for mobile and dont use NEOM’s IP.

So there are actually so many different kinds of codes now.
Just like when Apple has the iPod with a circle in the middle, many other companies started making MP3 players with a circle in the middle.
